COST PRICE CAKE – Green Cardamom and Madagascan Vanilla cake with Mango Buttercream filling

This is the first of the cost price cakes I’ve made available to friends and acquaintances in the local area. (For more info see the facebook group) Happily (for me anyway) it sold before it was even finished!

I came up with the design primarily as a way to practice my piping and also to try my hand at a slightly more elegant type of cake. I wanted to use a bold colour to contrast the white piped icing and once I settled on orange, I decided on designing a new flavour to match. I hope the cake’s new owners enjoy it, I think it works rather well and only needs a few little tweaks for next time.

Holy sweet mother of tasty! This is probably the best non-chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted! Really, really strong but very sumptuous natural flavours. In summary: OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!! The band certainly enjoyed it! It’s been in their vicinity for about 2 hours and it’s half gone!

I took the rest of this cake in to work to share with my colleagues and the reaction was similar to the band – lots of love for the interesting cardamom flavours, one colleague thought there was a hint of parma violets going on but I’m not sure about that one…either way it’s long gone now!
